Situating demonstrations within contemporary agricultural advisory contexts: analysis of demonstration programmes in Europe

Purpose The paper aims to examine interactions between demonstrations at programme level and Agricultural Advisory Services (AAS). It situates analysis of the demonstration activities within contemporary advisory contexts, asking: how do programmes interact with AAS in which they are situated; what role play enhancing contributing AAS?Methodological approach Data, pertaining organisational arrangements, were collected using interviews workshops representing 35 across Europe. Themes from literature together emergent themes used progressively unpack understand interaction AAS.Findings Demonstration arrangements show different degrees embedding in, adapting to, AAS. Embedding is being incorporated into existing formalised structures more likely a low pluralism. Adaptation occurs through collaboration, partnership networking pluralistic AAS.Practical Implications need support create stable networks, strengthen their linking AAS, foster strategies for progression farmers’ learning was identified.Theoretical implications contributes by providing insights (as opposed farm or event level) revealing embedded adaptive processes many interdependencies components.Originality This opens up new perspectives on understanding positioned looking influences delivering beyond methods.
